’79 Van, 350 V* Automatic. Suddenly stopped upshifting after sudden emergency stop. Linkage OK?
OK, 2nd round on this, I have a ’79 Chev Van, wirh a 350 Automatice trans. After an emergency stop, the trans stopped up-shifting. It WILL downshift manually while in drive, so appears it is not shifting above 2nd gear? Can find no vacuum leaks, all linkages seem normal, Have not checked modulator, because I cant find it, it is not anywhere that I would normally have found on other chev transmissions. This is a factory conversion van, so may have a heavyduty transmission that has things in unusual places? It does have cruise control, which has never worked properly, That still malfunctions, in same manner, sigh, so again does not appear to be the problem. Van will move, can drive up to 30mph max, but that is dangerously over reving the engine. Short of pulling trans, I can prob fix any bolt off/bolt on prob, but cant identify prob source, so far. Thanks for any help offered!
Could be a vacuum leak at the transmission modulator or from the Map sensor to the intake port on the carburetor.
Check transmission oil level could be low.
